IsiNdebele is spoken by more than 1 million individuals in South Africa. In 1977 the first-ever book of the Bible – The Gospel according to Mark – was translated into IsiNdebele by the Bible Society of South Africa. The first New Testament and selected Psalms appeared in 1986. In 2012, the translation of the complete Bible was published. IsiNdebele is the last of South Africa's 11 official languages to receive a complete Bible.
