Women’s Month Spotlight: Christelle

To My Younger Self
By Christelle du Plessis
Today, as I reflect on life, I look back at you with deep affection.
You are radiant—full of youth, innocence and energy.
I wish I had truly understood your worth then, and so I write to you with the wisdom of experience, to offer guidance and reassurance.
Life will present many challenges—some minor, others profoundly difficult.
But you will face each one with courage, resilience, and unwavering faith in God.
With every hurdle overcome, you will grow stronger.
You will come to live by the truth of Philippians 4:13:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Always remember how special you are.
Don’t waste your energy on meaningless pursuits or people who do not value you.
Make each day count. Do not spend your time longing for the future—live in the present.
Make responsible choices, but don’t forget to enjoy life.
Embrace opportunities, and never miss a chance to learn, work, love, or laugh.
Take chances on people, but never compromise who you are, just to belong.
Believe in yourself!
Throughout your journey, you will love deeply and you will experience heartbreak.
You will grieve, yet also find many reasons to celebrate.
You will make mistakes—but you will learn from them and you will grow.
Do not dwell on the past. Instead, set clear goals and move forward with purpose.
Stay humble, no matter how much you accomplish.
Uplift and celebrate other women—there is power in shared triumphs.
Listen to your mother—she once stood where you stand, fighting many of the same battles.
Work diligently, but do not chase after wealth.
Live simply, travel lightly, and love wholeheartedly.
Spend time in nature, cherish every sunset, every flower and recognise God’s hand in all that is beautiful.
Be kind to animals, and treat every person with dignity and respect, but above all, be kind to yourself and be grateful for everything you have.
Make time to rest and take care of your body, your health is your most valuable asset.
Know that marriage will challenge you, and motherhood even more so, but both are worthy of your time, love, and effort, and the rewards will be immeasurable.
And finally, my dear younger self, I realise now that perhaps you didn’t need this advice after all. Looking back, I see that you navigated life bravely. Your struggles and missteps shaped you into the woman you are today – empowered, courageous, and full of purpose.
You have become someone who brings value to the world.
With love and pride
